Featured on Appricio
If you are reading this, a place you run was chosen for Appricio. Nobody at your business was contacted first, nobody was invoiced, and nobody ever will be. This page explains what the accolade means and gives you the kit to display it.
No venue can pay to be on Appricio.
None ever will be able to.
Not a listing fee, not a placement fee, not a commission on bookings, not a discount in exchange for a better position. There is no sales team to call and no package to buy. If someone contacts you claiming to sell a spot on Appricio, they do not work for us, and we would like to know about it.
This is not a policy we are proud of keeping for now. It is the product. The moment a place can be bought, every other place on the list stops meaning anything, and the app is worth nothing to the person holding the phone.
Appricio makes its money from the people who use it: a free tier with fifty cities in full, and an optional subscription. Never from the places it recommends.
How a place gets chosen
Appricio is a travel guide that hands people the few places a local would actually choose, right now, with a reason attached. To do that it has to be willing to leave things out, including famous things.
- Machines find the candidates, they do not pick them. We sweep a city, then score every candidate on how well it fits a real moment: the hour, the weather, the walk, the season, and an editorial significance score that is not the same thing as a star rating.
- Star ratings and review counts do not decide anything. They are the reason most guides hand you the same forty places. A well reviewed ice cream counter does not outrank a basilica here.
- A human curation pass runs on top. Chains come out. Tourist traps come out. Venues that are really an event, an operator, or a category rather than a place come out.
- Every photo is machine verified before it ships, so the picture on your page is actually of your place.
- The words are written, then checked. An AI writes the first draft of why a place is worth going to. It never chooses or orders anything, and what it writes gets read before it ships.
There is no application. There is no form. The only way onto Appricio is to be the kind of place a local would send a friend to.
The badge kit
Yours to use, free, with no approval step and nothing to sign. Print it, post it, frame it, put it in your email footer, or ignore it entirely.
The kit holds both treatments of every piece, plus a one page printing guide. Pick whichever suits your window and your feed. You can mix them.
The QR code, and what it does
The decal and the certificate carry a QR. Scanning it opens your place inside Appricio, on the page a traveler standing on your street would see, with the line we wrote about why you are worth the walk. If the app is not installed, it opens the same page on the web.
If your kit came from us by email, the QR is already yours and points at your own place. If you downloaded the kit from this page, the QR opens Appricio itself, because a public download cannot know who is printing it. Write to us and we will send the version with your own code.
The QR carries a tag that tells us a scan came from a badge rather than from a share. That is the only thing we measure. There is no tracking pixel in the kit and nothing in it reports back about your customers.
Put it up and we return the favor
Display the badge or post it, tell us, and your place goes onto its city page here on appricio.com, in a strip of featured venues that links straight to you. Send a photo or a link to hello@appricio.com and a person will add it.
Questions venues ask
What does this cost?
Nothing, ever. There is no free tier that becomes paid later and no upsell behind it. You will not be invoiced by us and you will not be contacted by a salesperson, because there is not one.
Can we pay to rank higher, or to be added?
No. There is no mechanism to do it, which is deliberate. Money cannot enter the ranking without breaking the only thing that makes the app useful.
Do we owe you anything for using the badge?
No. No link back, no post, no mention. Use it or do not.
Can we be removed?
Yes. Write to hello@appricio.com and your place comes off. No questions and no follow up email.
Something we wrote about you is wrong, or you have moved
Tell us and we will fix it. Wrong hours, a wrong address, a description that no longer fits, new ownership, a closure. A guide that is wrong about you is worse for us than it is for you.
Are you selling our data, or taking a cut of bookings?
No. We do not sell venue data, we do not run ads, and we do not take booking commissions. There is no affiliate link pointed at you.
Does being featured expire?
Coverage is refreshed as cities are revisited, so what we say about a place is kept current. If a place stops being one we would send a friend to, it can come off the list. Nobody buys their way back on.
If any of this raises a question this page does not answer, write to me directly. It is read by a person and answered within a day.
