Press kit

Everything you need to write about Appricio: facts, the story, screenshots, and downloadable assets. For anything else, or a promo year of Plus to test with, email hello@appricio.com. It is read by a person and answered within a day.

The kit contains the app icon, all eight App Store screenshots at full resolution (1320×2868), the founder photo, and a plain-text fact sheet.

The one-liner

The travel guide that tells you to skip the Eiffel Tower.

Boilerplate

Appricio is an AI-native travel guide that replaces the endless list with a few opinionated picks for what to do right now. It reads your location, the hour, the weather and your taste, hands you the few places a local would actually choose, and explains why each one fits. It is brave enough to call out tourist traps, and it ranks nothing by who pays.

All 50 launch cities are curated in depth and free in full. Plus ($29.99/yr) adds unlimited saves, multi-day trip planning, the events calendar and arrival alerts, with worldwide coverage on Plus arriving later this year. iPhone now, Android next.

The story

Martin Tantow, founder of Appricio

Martin Tantow spends his days on the other side of the table: partner at Pegasus Tech Ventures in Silicon Valley, and before that a serial entrepreneur who founded and sold 3scale (acquired by Red Hat), Scaler, and CloudTimes. Appricio is the app he kept waiting for someone else to build. Nobody did. So he built it himself, alone.

The itch is one every traveler knows. Land somewhere new, open the usual apps, and drown: fifty pins, a top-100 list, forty reviews deep and still no answer. Every travel app hands you options. None of them help you choose.

Appricio is the opposite bet. It reads the moment you are in, commits to the few picks a local would actually choose, says why, and offers a Plan B if you have already been. It will even tell you to skip the Eiffel Tower when the queue is two hours and landmarks are not your thing. What Lonely Planet was decades ago, rebuilt for the AI era.

How it works, technically

Ranking is a deterministic TypeScript scoring engine: distance, time-of-day fit, weather fit, learned taste weights, and an editorial significance score. Venues are never ranked by star ratings or by who pays. An LLM (Anthropic's Claude) is used for exactly two things: writing the editorial "why" behind each pick, and generating the city guides. It never picks or orders anything. Every venue photo is machine-verified before it ships. The app is guest-first with no signup, works offline for cached cities, and shows no ads.

What Appricio is not

A reviews aggregator. A directory you scroll forever. A feed of sponsored placements. A social network. It is what to do, where you are, right now, and a real plan when you travel.
